The Peasant Wedding is a series of large scale paintings that continue Stefan Dunlop’s fascination with the history of painting, and in particular the celebrated 1567 work of the same title by Dutch Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel. Figures and objects appropriated from old masters paintings are situated in abstracted landscapes of multiple perspectives and vibrant colours, simultaneously a reminder of the brutal history of humanity, and a contemplation on the future of image making.
